Featured Label // Serious War Recordings

Posted in Featured Labels with tags , on August 11, 2010 by jaybullfrog

This new dubstep label from Los Angeles comes with a fresh take on the heavy bass sound that we all know and love. After launching their first release Jan. 1 of this year they have developed a most proper sound with each new release.

Their first album Speaker Killer (with tunes from Bass Deep) comes with a chilled out, bassy tune that jumps in and out of some dubby sounding Bass. Good intro track. 6 Million Ways 2 Die has great oscillating sub waves with the classic vocal we all know.

Their 2nd release Bass Infection features tracks from D Queue, Enuf Talk, and Bass Deep. Energy will get the heads bobbin’ with the rhythmic bass stabs in between drum hits. Infected comes with a nice Wu-Tang sample over some wobble action sure to keep the party goin’ strong. The 3rd track on this album Nightmare in India starts off with a tantalizing indian melody then spits out bass morphed out over some mild drums and an echo’ed out sample that makes you feel like you’re in outer space with Ripley battling the aliens!!

Next came The Hit EP from D Queue. Dr. Ooze lays down the PHATTY bassline settin’ the mood to blaze a phatty. juknow.

Now coming off their recently released 10th album Call For Fire it doesn’t look like Serious War is slowing down anytime soon.

Check all their tunes at http://seriouswar.digitaldubbed.com

Now Compatible with Android’s Froyo 2.2 OS

Posted in General with tags on August 10, 2010 by jaybullfrog

Now that Google has released their new Android 2.2 Froyo Operating System you can browse all your favorite tunes at http://digitaldubbed.com in the comfort of your Android Device.

Right now it’s just available for the Sprint Evo 4G & Google Nexus One phones, but it should be available for the Incredible, the Desire, the Legend, and the myTouch 3G Slide in the next month or so.

To view the site’s Flash in the most optimized format you’ll just need to click on a flash portion of the site.  It will glow, then hold your finger down in a flash portion of the site again, then when the full screen icon appears in the left hand corner just click on that.

We will be modifying the Main Store page to be a bit more mobile friendly but it definitely still does the job.  The Label and Artist stores are immediately ready for mobile activity as their interface was made for mobile browsing from the beginning.

This is made possible due to Froyo’s support of the new 10.1 Flash software.  Some flash sites seem bulky and clunky on Froyo but Digital Dubbed was built clean with efficiency in mind and that is what is making us an immediate solution for your Android electronic music browsing and buying needs.

Android

Look for our official Android App coming this Fall as well as support for the older Android 2.1 OS.

Thanks,

-Jay Bullfrog

The Beatdown

Posted in Events with tags , on May 18, 2010 by jaybullfrog

Came in with Divine Elements setting the place off. Going from dnb to dubstep and back. Definitely a show. The crazy big ass screen/visuals in the background helped to set the mood propa and the sound was booming nicely. Next NumberNin6 hit the decks and dropped the dubby bangerz and got the ladies groovin’ (as well as myself).

By the time Joe Nice got there my camera died (was barely alive when i got there). But he wrecked it without question. Was expecting a big set and he delivered.

Props to Miztah Lex for the +1 and Dip for gettin’ me in after i got hassled with some herb at the door.

I’m still getting used to the settings on my camera/camcorder so bare with me, they’ll get better. :)

Had to come out to see Jakes again. The man wrecked fuggin’ shop last time he was at Pure Filth. Also, hadn’t had a proper chance to catch Mary Anne Hobbs so this was lookin’ good.

However, due to the fact it was announced tickets would only be available online (even though they were definitely available at the door) the turnout was less than stellar. Regardless, bass in the face is what we came for and certainly what we got. Sam XL had the decks rumblin’ early and Jakes was mcin’ for a bit before getting on.

CARBON LOGIC PRESENTS THE GRASSROOTS LP IN AID OF LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM

Posted in Album Reviews with tags , on April 27, 2010 by kellydeandubstep

In September 2009 Carbon Logic launched a search for two outstanding up & coming bass music producers, to be released on the Grassroots 12″ in February 2010.

During a 4 month period, over 700 Tracks from across the globe were submitted.
700 were filtered to 120.
120 to 82.
And finally 82 to the two winning tracks, ‘Amusia’ by Uproot and ‘Suspect’ by Partition, with GEMMY’s Remix of ‘Suspect accompanying both tracks on The Grassroots 12″ Vinyl Release.

Compiled by Nick Argon (Argon Records), BunZer0 (Sub FM), Twisted (Dutty Dubz) and Will Blaze (3.5 Records), The Grassroots 12″ is a micro snapshot of the rapidly splintering scenes of dubstep, bass music and beyond as we head into 2010.

The concept for the companion Grassroots Compilation LP was born from the incredible quality and originality of new bass music uploaded to carbon logic during the competition period. Nick Argon and his panel felt strongly that more than two artists from their shortlists should be represented for release.

The Grassroots LP includes the original two winners and Gemmy’s Remix of ‘Suspect’ but expands its theme to bring you another thirteen up & coming producers from across the globe.

“The GRASSROOTS LP kicks off with ‘Peregruzka’ by SOOK, a thunderously dubby track, grumbly and growly. The deep, techy bass getting any true dubstep fan’s appetite whet and hungry for more. The second track ‘Daybreak’ by YLEM, moves away to a lighter, dreamy dub-sound. The contrasts of the track selections work very well. ‘Dangerous’ by TKR has a tinny, metallic timbre reminiscent of early, old-school dubstep. The combination of compositions by different artists illustrates individual inspirations by a panoply of diverse sub-genres and musical styles. In ‘Kizgin Kannaci’ by BAMSEE there are musical flavours of old-school garage mixed with an Indian raga vibe. There are continually changing dub sounds throughout the album, track after track. From the wild energetic, driven sound of ‘The Rhythm’ by GON, the twisted, psychotic sound of ‘Amusia’ by UPROOT to the ravey anthem noise found in ‘Break The Seal’ by DEPONE & KELLY DEAN.” – RivMixx

“Suspect is an incredibly moody tune, with a very prominent stepping bassline. This is a sound-system tune, it just makes you want to move!” – Nick Argon (Argon Records)

“Snare drums are very important in dubstep and the snare in Amusia makes you blink, it’s so hard!” – Nick Argon (Argon Records)

The Grassroots LP Track List:

01 PEREGRUZKA • SOOK (Antarctica)
02 DAYBREAK • YLEM (Australia)
03 DANGEROUS • TKR (Germany)

Featured Label // Monkey Dub Recording

Posted in Album Reviews, Featured Labels with tags , on April 2, 2010 by c.m.f.

Based outta Montreal this label is bringing fire in dubstep form. Their first release in Dec. of ’09 from Graish starts right off with some raw ish. The title track Nasal Discharge has a funny ass vocal and drops into a rhythmic bassline. Lamb’s Bread & Cakehole are full-on jungle influenced dubstep. Great for all you crossovers! And Run The Plate is for sure anthem material.

Their 2nd Release Mai Capitana from producer Sonotech of Venezuela features some latin-inspired intros on both tracks and each proceeds to unleash the fury through bass gnarled latin fusion.

The Not For Radio EP title track sums up exactly what i think about the radio. Anarky & Bankster round this album out with 4 tracks each. Anarky reminds us why we listen to this music. The BAss. OOoohh!! the bass. Feel The Vibrations brings in a loose bassline and beats it up like an old hooker and The Crowd Gods Mad (Gangsta Remix) is some nasty oscillating hits over some atmospherics. Bankster comes with some heavy reggae/jungle influenced tunes. Lickshot’s got one of the dopest melodies i’ve heard, ill-ass underground hip-hop vibe with some minimal wobble in the background.

Fast forward 6 releases and 3 months later and the world has seen this reggae/breaks/electro/jungle/hip-hop inspired dubstep label carve out a name for themselves. Never forgetting to keep massive concentrations of bass in the mix Monkey Dub definitely covers the spectrum from melodic, minimal dubstep, to dubbed out reggae styles, to the full on dancefloor smashers.

GOT TO MENTION Heads You Live on the Fashion Crasher EP (MDR009). This is my new favorite song. Glitchy off balance edits makes me smile.

Check their 10th release just out this week Taxidermia by Echo Company. Some great original vocals & tasty bass sure to keep your A.D.D. hunger for new tunes fed.

It was no surprise the Smog vs. Basshead night would do well, the question was how the fuck am i going to enjoy all of these artists?!?! Lets look at the lineup…..
